Veteran Memorial To Be Built In Dickinson

Posted: Updated:

A memorial will be built in Dickinson to honor veterans of Stark County.

The memorial which will be located on Memorial Hill in North Dickinson, will have eleven granite panels consisting of veterans names.

It's a project Vietnam veteran, Dave Logosz and his wife have been thinking of for years.

"No one else was doing it so we decided that well we better get the ball rolling and eventually a bunch of us met together and we formed committees and this is a good part of our project, we have over 5,000 names for the wall, the granite has been ordered and the community has given us very good support," Veteran Dave Logosz said.

This bronze statue will be located at the front of the memorial and is already completed.

Sculptor Linda Little spent four months sculpting the soldier.

"He's six foot five and will actually sit at the very front post of the Stark County Veterans Project and he is actually saluting the names," Linda Little said.

In order to get your name on the memorial you have to be a resident of Stark County for 10 years or have entered the military from Stark County.

The deadline to get your name on the memorial is April 15th.

If you'd like to learn more about the memorial you can visit www.starkcountyveterans.org.

June is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness month. The disorder affects thousands of combat veterans every year, many of whom never seek out help. According to the Department of Veteran Affairs,
The Veterans Affairs Clinic in Fargo has been working on their outreach across the state, they want more soldiers to get screened, but can't force it either.
