Teams Compete in Science Bowl

Posted: Updated:

High School students from across the state meet up for a battle of wits.

"I'm an electrical engineer and I can't even answer the questions. I might get one and say, 'Oh, I knew that!' But these kids are really sharp." says North Dakota State Coordinator Tim Gerhart.

The University of Mary hosts the North Dakota Regional Science Bowl.

24 teams from across the state "buzzed in" for their chance at an all expense-paid trip to the National Science Bowl in Washington, D.C.

And for the first time in 16 years, two divisions saw a three-way tie.

One division brought three Grand Forks teams head-to-head for a tie breaker round.

Grand Forks Red River advanced to the finals.

But team captain Julia Crogh says you don't always know the answers.

"Our team kinda has a designated guesser-person who is good at guessing, which is me, I guess. And so, if it looks like nobody else is going to buzz in, I'll just guess!" says Crogh.

The National Science Bowl will be held in April.

Fargo Shanley's team took first place.
