Sunglasses Needed to Shield Eyes from Sunny Snow

Posted: Updated:

Some of you may have noticed it was very bright out recently.

Of course it has to do with the sun, but it also has to do with the fresh snow we picked up Wednesday into Thursday.

In the weather community there is a term called Albedo which gives values to how well an object reflects sunlight.

Fresh snow has one of the highest albedo values where as a freshly tilled field would have a low albedo value.

Optometrist Amy Fleck in Bismarck says sunglasses are not just for summer.

"Just make sure your sunglasses are big enough to cover well. I don't think that is a problem now, but for a while a lot of people were wearing really small sunglasses and that just doesn't provide enough blockage for covering around the eye." says Amy Fleck/Optometrist.

Albedo in Latin means whiteness.
