Teen creates Lovin' From My Oven Baking Project

Posted:

One teenager is just as busy mixing up batches of cookies as she is doing homework.
Florence Mayer has a passion for baking.
Reporter Sarah Gustin introduces you to a teenager who has plans of turning her 4-H project into a full time business.

Scoop after scoop this teenager is practicing making her dreams a reality.
Florence Mayer is a long time 4-H'er and a long time baker.
Her mom says she's been helping out in the kitchen since before she was in school and this now 14 year old girl is making plans to take her 4-H project to the next level.
This fall she obtained permission from the state health department to pursue her passion.
Florence was given the chance to operate her baking business out of her home for 8 weeks--right during the holiday season.
(Florence Mayer / Lovin' In My Oven Creator) "Getting up at 4 in the morning. I usually had over 10 orders, plus a weekly order, that was hectic. Especially during the holiday season. I had 12 varieties of cookies, 5 varsities of breads and an assortment of cakes and rolls and a whole bunch of other things."
Florence kept the oven hot..all while maintaining her 4 pt GPA.
(Florence Mayer / Lovin' In My Oven Creator) "My favorite thing to bake is pies and breads."
And one of her favorites is also one of the most popular.
(Florence Mayer / Lovin' In My Oven Creator) "The breads because not many people bake, fresh homemade breads from home ingredients. nothing is out of a package or anything and breads were definitely my biggest seller.
When asked if she would repeat that 8 week
eventually I would like to have my own bakery with a verified kitchen so I could be producing and have a store and make it into something bigger."
And Florence is quick to credit the 4 leaf clover for all her success.
(Florence Mayer / Lovin' In My Oven Creator) "4-H isn't about going to county fair and state fair once a year. It's a life long making your best better."

Once all of Florence's expenses are paid, the extra profit is put into a scholarship fund she's developed for other 4-Her's looking to start up a business of their own.
