Police Officer Shortage

Posted: Updated:

Finding enough people to work has been a problem for many across the region, and the Minot Police Department is no exception.

The increase in population in Minot has led to an increase in crime, from domestic assaults to traffic calls.
And while Minot police are able to handle those calls, Chief Jason Olson says traffic enforcement has tailed off with the shortage of officers.
To help lighten the load for current officers and focus more on traffic enforcement, the department is in the process of hiring six more officers, which Chief Olson says will enable the department to be more proactive, versus reactive.

(Chief Jason Olson - Minot PD)"Not having the man power to spend time to concentrate on traffic enforcement. We find our officers going a lot more call to call responding to incidents and not having as much extra time as we would like to do traffic enforcement.

The Minot Police Department is continuing to accept applications.
