Williston Downtown Plans

Posted: Updated:

Changes are coming in the near future for the downtown area of Williston.

With the economic boom in Williston, city officials would like to revamp the area.

The city is now accepting proposals from planning consultants and will begin interviewing in the coming weeks.

Proposals for a new zoning code will also be taken from consultants.

The timeline for the downtown plan is six to eight months.

Construction plans for infrastructure improvements are expected to begin in the spring of 2014.

Early discussion of ideas, issues and concerns from members of the community are encouraged.

Staff Planner, Rachel Ressler, would like to see a wide range of businesses placed downtown.

(Rachel Ressler, Staff Planner) "Every downtown needs a mix. From office space, to retail space, to residences to re restaurants. We don't have an exact number, in order to have a vibrant downtown, you need that mix and so we're looking for that mix, we're not looking for anything specific."

An ordinance was recently passed restricting residency in the downtown area to above retail space only.
