What's in Store for I-94?

Posted: Updated:

What's in store for I-94?  A study is underway to decide.

Traffic issues on the interstate and along State Street, Centennial and Divide are causing concern.  Projected population growth means more vehicles and worsening problems.  In fact, by 2040, traffic is expected to nearly double along I-94.

"About half the accidents in the study area that includes, again, on the interstate itself, as well as the interchanges, are rear-end crashes, and that has a lot to do with congestion and driver expectancy issues.  Drivers don't expect brake lights, and then they happen and they get into these accidents," says Todd Polum, Principal, at SRF Consulting.

The study is looking at how best to protect and maintain operation of the I-94 corridor now and into the future.  The public is invited to provide input tomorrow at Mandan Middle School at 5:00 p.m.
