Local Organization Helping Thousands Needs Help Themselves

Posted: Updated:

This organization has helped thousands.  Now they're in need of some help themselves.

The most recent numbers reveal nearly 17,000 adults reached out to the Abused Adult Resource Center in a single year.  The Abused Adult Resource Center answered those calls.
Now, this local nonprofit is calling out for advocacy volunteers.

"A lot of the times, domestic abuse and sexual assault doesn't stop at 5:00 p.m. or on weekends.  And in an attempt to prevent our employees from burning out, we have volunteer advocate opportunities for people.  We provide training and it is an opportunity to act as a first line of defense," says Katie Oliver, Volunteer & Special Events Coordinator of the Abused Adult Resource Center.

The Abused Adult Resource Center is a nonprofit serving victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in south-central North Dakota.  The Center offers free training and a cell so volunteers aren't homebound or required to use their own phones.  If you're interested in learning more, call them at 701/222-8370.

June is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness month. The disorder affects thousands of combat veterans every year, many of whom never seek out help. According to the Department of Veteran Affairs,
The Veterans Affairs Clinic in Fargo has been working on their outreach across the state, they want more soldiers to get screened, but can't force it either.
