Kenmare Farmer Wins For Charity

Posted: Updated:

A Kenmare community program that helps needy families during the holidays got a big gift today thanks to an area farm family and a worldwide agriculture corporation.

Kenneth and Collean Brekhus nominated "Gift of Love" in Kenmare for the Monsanto sponsored "America's Farmers Grow Communities" program.

Since 2010 the Monsanto program has accepted farmer driven nominations from across the country and selected one local nonprofit organization from each eligible county to donated 25-hundred dollars to.

This year "Gift of Love" was the winner for Ward County.

(Bob Sanders, DeKalb-Monsanto) "Monsanto and DeKalb are 100% agricultural companies so we try really hard to do what we can do to make sure that we're giving back to the areas where our customers come from."

(Arlen Gartener, Kenmare - Gift of Love) "When you can give 60 baskets around the area and that stuff, people don't realize what the needs are and like I tell a lot of people it's not only about the parents but it's about the kids. When we give those toys and stuff there's a twinkle in their eye.">
