Spirit Seekers ND Investigate Tunnels of Mandan Business - KXNet - Bismarck/Minot/Williston/Dickinson

If you're looking for a spooky way to spend your night, a group of local thrill seekers might have just the adventure you're looking for.

Krista Harju braves the evening with some locals seeking out spirits.

"I don't have a flashlight down here..."

Seven ghost hunters are attempting to unravel North Dakota's paranormal mysteries.

We joined them as they investigate the tunnels under a Mandan business--the old Mysteria theatre.

"During prohibition, Al Capone actually would come to Mandan to get alcohol from the people who had the stills in Mandan."

Is a gangster haunting these underground tunnels?

Not likely.

But the tunnels were used to transport more than liquor during the prohibition era.

"And prostitutes. Yep. Alcohol and prostitutes."

Making the possibilities for paranormal activity endless.

Whoever or whatever might be down here, spirit seekers say they did not seem to want company.

"Is it okay if we are here tonight? No. It is not okay!"

At least one ghost hunter has some haunted memories from her hometown.

Something that has Darcy Severson searching for answers.

"I think a lot of times, that's what strikes people's interest. Something personal happened to them. In the house I grew up in Center, we always had weird things that happened that were unexplainable. And it makes you curious. You want to explore more and find out if truly is paranormal or if there is a reason that can explain it." says Darcy Severson.

Last May, the spirited bunch decided to take their hobby to the next level.

"We decided this spring of this last year... of 2012... to actually go forward with this and start buying more equipment. Originally, we had a couple pieces and we were doing it more, 'Yeah, let's go here and check this out." says Darcy Severson.

We didn't see any ghosts, but light meters, and equipment--including some or our own--did take on some eerie effects. See how the light on our camera is unexplainably flickering.

Leaving at least this reporter to believe-- that there may be more than meets the eye.
