Region Music Competition

Posted: Updated:

Bands and choirs from the region were on the campus of Minot State University to perform in front of judges to receive feedback.

The Region Eight Music Festival was today and 11 schools from around the region played and were critiqued by judges.

Concert bands played in the morning, followed by concert choir in the afternoon.

Director of Bands at Minot State, Devin Otto, was one of the judges at the festival and says there's a lot to take into consideration when judging.

(Devin Otto, Judicator) "We fill out a form and give written comments for each group, then we take turns giving short feedback on stage. Unfortunately, we don't have more time. We would love to spend an hour with each group and help these students as much as we can, but we get maybe five minutes with each group to give some immediate feedback. Then they always receive two written forms with comment."

Solo and ensemble performers will be judged in April to determine who moves on to state.
