Airports, appetites and gift-giving goodies in this week's "Around Town."
Removing the old to make way for the new. In April, runway construction begins at the Mandan Municipal Airport. The current runway is 35 years old, and Airport Manager, Jim Lawler, says "it's just time." When finished, renovations will also include new runway lights and GPS approach.
The airport will be completely shut down for 30 days, during which time the intersection of the paved and grass runways will be finished first. After that, aircraft can land on the grass strip until completion of the entire project, which is slated for October.

Soon you'll be able to get one of those fresh fruit arrangements you've seen on TV. Currently only available in Fargo, construction will be getting underway on an Edible Arrangements store in Bismarck. They'll be located at 1001 West Interstate -- between Jimmy John's and GNC -- in the former Vlana Vlee space.
They'll offer custom-ordered arrangements in a variety of styles and sizes for delivery within a 50 mile radius -- guaranteed fresh. Balloons and stuffed bears can be paired with your fruit arrangement. More information on their products is available at www.ediblearrangements.com.
Closed on Sundays since November, a local favorite is now open all weekend long. Fiesta Villa has a new owner and a new lunch menu. A new dinner menu is being unveiled in May.
That's not all -- the dining room will undergo remodeling within the next couple months.
This Summer brings three big tent events -- the first set for Cinco De Mayo, May 3rd through 5th. In the meantime, Fiesta Villa will feature live music every Saturday. Even though yesterday's nice weather had Fiesta Villa guests asking to sit outside, the restaurant says you'll have to wait until May 1st before patio dining is available.
