County Expanding Highway Building

Posted: Updated:

A much needed project that was put off for a few years following the flooding of 2011 is about to start at the Ward County Highway Department.

The old building is getting a face-lift...and will grow a bit too.

Construction crews are about ready to begin the build-out of the highway department's home in southeast Minot.

Dana Larsen says the expansion will not be massive...but it will provide some much needed space for his staff to spread out.

More office space will be added this summer -- a new meeting room will be created -- and other areas will be touched up as well.

(Dana Larsen - Ward County Highway Engineer) "Right now we have copy machines in people's offices and we have planning zoning administrator is at the courthouse...she would come out here and we would move our copy machine back into the copy room. It is kind of tough being on a phone call while the copy machine is making copies!"

This project is separate from the county expansion project that was approved by voters last fall and is paid for with funds already in the highway department budget.
