Beulah Woman Finalist in Carhartt Cold Crew Contest

Posted:

Carhartt coats and bibs are a common sight in North Dakota during the winter months.
Ag Reporter Sarah Gustin introduces you to a Beulah ranch woman who's a finalist in a Carhartt cold crew contest.

North Dakota's weather is not for the faint of heart--especially for those who make their living outside.
(Dawn Martin / Finalist for Carhartt Cold Crew Contest) "Ranching, you have to have a lot of patience, you have to love it. It's just in you I guess, when you have grown up with it. It's just in you and it's what you want to do forever. I don't know Just the love of the animals and the land, conservation."
Dawn Martin ranches with her family south of Beulah.
On days like this, and every 2 hours in the middle of the night, you'll find Dawn bundled up in her carhartt gear.
(Dawn Martin / Finalist for Carhartt Cold Crew Contest)"If there is anybody who uses carhartts in the cold it's ranchers."
Martin is one of nine finalists in the cold crew contest.
A contest that asks those working in some of the toughest weather conditions to explain why Carhartts are essential for their jobs.
This ranch woman is up against Canadian electricians and mail carriers--even a sewer worker from Maine.
But Dawn's story is a pretty convincing one to tell.
(Dawn Martin / Finalist for Carhartt Cold Crew Contest)"Calving we are going out at night. That's what I wrote, going out and checking cows in the middle of the night and in the cold and the snow and sometimes with ski goggles on."
A love and passion that she says is well worth getting cold for.
(Dawn Martin / Finalist for Carhartt Cold Crew Contest)"Sometimes you kind of have to wonder, but yeah it's worth getting cold for."

To win, Dawn Needs your vote.

The grand prize winter will receive an all expenses paid trip for 2 to the CMA Music festival this June.
