When someone wants to move in for a job in the oil industry, the first need is housing.
That's how officials in Stanley report the continuing boom in their community.
The proliferation of oil activity in Mountrail County has brought thousands of people to the area, seeking work in everything from oil production to home building.
And today, North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp was in Stanley and Williston to look for ways the federal government might help communities in finding affordable housing.
At one point in her tour of new housing in Stanley, Heitkamp paused to ask the workers where they are from, and to see if they might be planning to stay in North Dakota.
She says it's critical for all involved to solve the housing shortage to ensure the continuation of the economic boom in the region.
(Heidi Heitkamp, -D- North Dakota) "What we're hoping we're going to get out of this is really a matrix of good ideas, but also a list of those things that are currently impediments to doing to kind of development that we think we need to do."
Heitkamp will be in New Town tomorrow to discuss housing and economic development issues with leaders of the Three Affiliated Tribes.
