Around Town -- April 5, 2013

Posted: Updated:

Hotels, healthcare and hardware -- all in this week's "Around Town."

It's the largest hotel chain in the world.  Wingate by Wyndham opens in Bismarck near the North Walmart with 84-rooms and a new design.  The brand caters to business clientele -- from suits to boots -- and has meeting facilities for 40 to 50 people, plus a break-out room for ten.

Amenities include a salt water pool, made-to-order complimentary omelettes, and a free drink for hotel guests, thanks to their just-acquired liquor license.  On May 7th, the public is invited to attend the grand opening.

The St. Alexius primary care clinic is going up in Mandan.  When it opens in October, full radiology services, including mammographies, CT scans, and bone density testing will be available.  The clinic will also provide full lab services, a pharmacy and physical therapy.

First came Dickinson, then Minot, Cheyenne was third.  Now comes Bismarck.  My Place Hotel -- North of I-94 on Centennial -- is a brand new hotel chain.  The Bismarck property boasts 64 economy, extended-stay rooms -- the longer the stay, the better the rate.  Management says they're staying busy handling oil and construction business guests.  You'll notice North Dakota scenery in the artwork throughout.

From this raw piece of land -- imagine this brand new Ace Hardware near the North Walmart on the West side of State Street.  They're still a month away from shoring up driveway and other issues, but a ground-breaking is not too far off.  The owner of the existing Bismarck Ace Hardware, who is also building the new store, says the store on Seventh Street will not be closing.
