Apple Grove Flood Watch

Posted: Updated:

While the Mouse River runs high, Apple Grove residents are watching the spring thaw.

In 2011, Apple Grove flooded weeks before the rest of the city.

It was Memorial Day weekend when the close knit community evacuated their homes in two hours --- with NO notice.

Several coolies - like this one near Meadowbrook - drain into the Mouse River near Apple Grove.

The coolies carry the spring runoff from south-Minot business districts.

Apple Grove residents are concerned that the high water in the Mouse River will prevent the coolies from draining --- causing the water to back into their neighborhood like it did in 2011.

(Julie Schlosser, Apple Grove Resident) "When the river runs high, and the drainage comes out of the coolies, it got backed up and crept into here. Really, we had been paying attention to it, but no one told us anything. We're still concerned about drainage down here. We were told that there would be some culverts cleaned out and things like that. We're not sure if those things happened. We've never heard the rest of the story, did the things that we were promised get done? We're not sure."
