Logan Area Seeing High Water

Posted: Updated:

Rising water downstream from Minot in the Logan area is already forcing one family from their home.

The Mertz's had just finished rebuilding their home this past February from the heavy damage it sustained in the 2011 flood.

In the past several days with higher water flows from Lake Darling and frozen river channel in their area, Mouse River water has started to back up and encircle their home.

Marvin says after the 2011 disaster he had hoped management changes would have been made to avoid a second flood at his home but right now it's looking bleak.

(Marvin Mertz, Logan Area Resident) "There's been a lot of tears and it's been really tough. We've put everything we have into the house. We've had some fantastic people help us with the house. Neither one of us want to leave but we know we can't stay here."

(Cindy Mertz, Logan Area Resident) "Right now I would say it would be really really hard to come back here. We haven't had any trouble in this place until 2011 and now."

The Mertz's plan to stay with relatives in Minot for the time being but aren't sure of any long term plans yet.
