"A Fighting Chance" is the name of the new self defense class for teens coming up at the YMCA this month.
With our growing and changing community, keeping their kids safe is becoming an overwhelming worry for parents with young daughters.
The Minot YMCA is hosting a class for girls in grades 9 through 12 to teach them about self-defense and personal safety.
Certified instructors from A.T.A. Martial Arts will be teaching the class to the first 200 girls to sign up.
At the end of the day, each girl will receive an easy to carry flashlight and alarm combination, in case of a personal attack.
(Amy Moen, YMCA Development Director) "They're getting their driver's license, they wanna be out without their parents, they're becoming independent. And we just wanna make sure that their parents feel assured that their kids are safe when they're out on their own."
To sign up for the self defense class on one of the listed dates, call the YMCA or go to their website. The class is free of charge.
