Zoo Gets Donation

Posted: Updated:

Roosevelt Park Zoo got a boost today thanks to some hard work put in by employees of one Minot restaurant.

Staff members of Ruby Tuesdays went to the park district coordinators about a possible grant called the Cultivate Wines Grant.

Candidates from across the country are considered for the grant and winners are determined by a nationwide vote.

Roosevelt Zoo received one of the top number of votes in the nation.

Funds received will go to the outreach program at the zoo in hopes of teaching local schools about animal conservation and what can be done as a community to help animals.

The education coordinator of the zoo says donations are a big part of what keeps the zoo running.

(Jennifer Fry, Education Coordinator, Roosevelt Parks Zoo) "Local community support, whether through grants, direct donations, is a large part of how we are able to open the zoo this summer. We will be opening May 4th and it is because of donations and grants that we are able to bring our zoo back and hopefully even better in the future."

Fry said the Park Department is excited and grateful for the donation.
