Students and Staff Miss Teacher Hurt In Car Accident

Posted:

A Shiloh teacher almost lost her life in a car accident earlier this year.

Her students say Dawn Ulmer is more of a friend than a teacher.

She hasn't returned to school since, but her spirit continues to live in the students.

<<"Kind of feels empty when you walk in the technology room," 6th grader Michael Kuehn said.

"It definitely feels, I don't want to say empty, but it you can feel that she is missing and that she's not at school with us," 6th grader Quinn Wrigley said.

The feeling is mutual inside Shiloh Christian School, a teacher who is known for her big heart and selflessness, continues to be missed by both staff and students.

"The kids just love her, they've just come to love her, they think of her as a friend and they truly miss her now, the kids do really miss her and talk about her on a daily basis," Math teacher, Andrea Aus said.

Mrs. Ulmer was involved in a car accident the night her daughter was just about to walk onto the basketball court, and play in the district tournament.

"And they were about to announce the starters and I was one of them and then my coach pulled me out and we went over to where my dad was and our principal Mr. Forness told me what happened," Krista Ulmer said.

Ulmer survived the accident, but the road to recovery hasn't been easy for her and her family.

"I was entirely shocked, I was very scared, but I knew that God was going to take care of her," Ulmer said.

The accident has restricted Ulmer from returning to work this school year, which is hard for students to cope with.

"They really, it did pull on their hearts and really crushed them to understand why would such a thing happen and how to deal with it, and we did spend a lot of time in prayer, that was one of the things we did to help students," Aus said.

"I don't think anybody could take Mrs. Ulmer's spot," Kuehn said.

And all the students at Shiloh have something they'd like to say to Mrs. Ulmer.>>

Mrs. Ulmer wasn't ready yet to talk on camera but she is recovering well.

A benefit will be held for Mrs. Ulmer on Sunday April 28th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Shiloh Christian School.
