Bachelor Party In A Bloodmobile: Guys Give Back

Posted: Updated:

It was the best man's idea, and the groom agreed to go along.  For the bachelor party, they decide to -- donate.

This group of guys believes it's a good way to celebrate with their friend, the groom, and give back in a time of national need.  "The idea kind of came up that maybe in lieu of the recent events that we could go and donate blood.  Everybody got behind it and really wanted to do their part," says Harlan Stewart, Idea Man (Best Man) of Bismarck.

"None of us drink.  None of us get really wild.  We got guys that have never given blood.  I've never given blood before.  I know there's only two guys here that have ever given blood before, so all of us are newbies," says Joe Stefalo, Man of the Hour (Groom) of Dickinson.

While United Blood Services in Bismarck says they've never been asked to host a bachelor party, they're glad they did.  Joe's bachelor party will provide enough blood to help around 25 people.

"The tragedy in Boston, we also had the explosion in Texas, that has really taken a toll on the blood banking industry all the way around.  We always want to be ready to act in any situation, so when they heard about that crisis, they stepped forward," says Stephanie Radenz, Donor Recruitment Manager, United Blood Services in Bismarck.

Joe's big day is May 18th.

In the meantime, there's a need for blood donations across the country.  United Blood Service employees in Bismarck say they need about 50 donors everyday to keep up with the need, but they've only been getting around 25.  For more information on making a blood donation--you can check out www.UnitedBloodServices.org.
