Water Rising Near Towner

Posted: Updated:

Dropping the level of Lake Darling is already impacting some areas downstream.

Water released from the lake has caused the Mouse River to overflow in certain areas of Towner.

Some homeowners around the intersection of Highway 14 and Highway 2 have been evacuated.

The Swearson's were one of those families evacuated this past weekend.

The family was still in the process of fixing portions of their home from the 2011 flood.

Now that effort will go towards preparing for the strong possibility of their home flooding once again.

(Steven Swearson, Towner Resident) "At the time they told use we need to leave again, that's when, it's like it's going to be as bad as it was before. Your first concern is your family and getting your livestock taken care of also. Just trying to find a spot for everything, but yeah it kind of gives you a sick feeling when they tell you its' going to flood again and you need to leave."

Swearson said preparation for the flood was difficult because the water rise happened within a matter of a few days.
