Activities Association will no longer allow fans on the court

Bismarck, ND -

The North Dakota High School Activities Association Board of Directors met this morning.
And on the agenda was a proposal to move the spring sports state tournaments back two weeks.
That proposal submitted by West Fargo was voted down unanimously.
So all spring state tournament dates will remain the same.
There will also be a big change coming to tournaments next season.
The board voted unanimously to make fans sit in the bleachers, they can longer be on the tournament floor.
Meaning at basketball tournaments, fans can no longer stand on the baselines behind the baskets
The rule doesn't affect regular season games, but will not be allowed during regional and state tournaments.
Matt Fetch with the Activities Association says there were multiple complaints about abusive verbal behavior by student fans towards players.
Fetch said there wasn't much concern about students storming the court, but instead poor sportsmanship towards the opposition.
This will have the largest affect on boys basketball.
Multiple WDA coaches have already said they don't agree with the new rule, and think it will detract from the emotion and atmosphere of tournaments.
