Burlington Sandbagging Effort

Burlington Sandbagging Effort

Posted: Updated:

It looks like spring is finally here - and spring means melting snow for us North Dakotans.

Citizens from the Minot area came together in Burlington today to spend a Saturday sandbagging.

In the 2011 flood, Burlington was hit hard.

This year, people are doing everything they can to make sure it doesn't happen again.

The Air Force Base received word that volunteers were needed for filling bags with how fast the snow is melting.

So they, along with citizens of Burlington, grabbed their shovels and gloves and got to work.

Sand and bags were given by the City of Minot, and the Red Cross provided lunch for the workers who spent over 10 hours bagging today.

(Steven Drewiske, Minot AFB) "It feels good. Its a Saturday, you're giving up some time but you know if we can give up, the people here, if we can give up time to help the local citizens then by all means it's worth the cause."
