High Schoolers Take-In All Things Aviation

Posted: Updated:

What can bring high school students out at 7:30 in the morning to line-up on campus? -- airplanes, helicopters and all things aviation.

Students taking classes at the Career Academy and Tech Center participated in the Aviation Expo at Bismarck State College today.  Though not the only activity, the big attraction was made available by the U.S. Army, which brought in flight simulators from Kentucky.  They say it's an opportunity to enlighten students on what's available with aviation in the Army.  Sergeant First Class Joshua Didier cautions it's not as easy to get in as you might think.

"It seems to be about three out of ten actually qualify either physically, morally or to pass the aptitude base exam.  You know, unfortunately, it is hard, and the ones that usually want it the most, aren't the ones, you know, they don't qualify in some sort of way," says Sergeant First Class Didier.

Other groups working with students at the Aviation Expo include UND Aerospace, Executive Air and Dakota Sprayers Association.
