Around Town -- May 3, 2013

Posted: Updated:

New manufacturing for the area?  What about mobile homemade BBQ -- and even another hotel?  That's what's "Around Town" this week.

Originally from North Dakota, this family is back after tenure in Texas.  They're bringing with them secret-recipe smoked BBQ.  "We serve only smoked meats.  Even our hot dogs are smoked.  So we do have the typical hamburger and hot dog, only our hot dogs are bacon-wrapped and everything is smoked.  We serve beef brisket. We serve pork loin and we serve pulled pork sandwiches," says George Robinson, VP Sales, Brothers Smoked BBQ.

Two brothers do the hands-on cooking.  Dad is the self-described "go-fer."  Brothers Smoked BBQ forte is special events, but they'll be in Mandan all weekend at Main Street Drive Thru Liquor from 4:00 p.m. to closing.

Home improvement giant, Menards, is in preliminary stages for construction of a new manufacturing facility east of Bismarck near McKenzie on Highway 10.  The Township has given approval for the proposed plant where joists, rafters, pavers and concrete blocks will be built and manufactured.  Burleigh County must still greenlight the project.  If it continues to move ahead as planned, the facility is expected to employ around 100 people initially.

A unique concept is coming to campus.  United Tribes Technical College is getting a hotel.
Though still un-announced, the major chain hotel will be the only one within the immediate vicinity of Bismarck Airport, which the College says makes good business sense.

The full-service hotel will feature 160 rooms with a 10,000 square foot conference center.  There will also be an educational component for students interested in hotel management, business, security and food service.  Groundbreaking for the hotel at United Tribes Technical College is expected to be as early as this July, with completion by Summer of 2014.
