Controlled Burn Turns Into Out Of Control Fire

A controlled burn becomes out of control this afternoon east of Bismarck.

Bismarck Rural Fire Department responded near the intersection of south 52nd Street and Apple Creek Road just after 3:00 p.m.

Bismarck Rural Fire Chief, Al Klein says the fire burned around 100 acres and thankfully the wind wasn't an issue for crews fighting the flames.

The fire is under control, but swampy areas made it difficult for crews to get to the fire.

"It's been a little difficult here because it's so soft and the creek runs through it and we've had three or four units get stuck throughout the afternoon, so it's been a bit of a problem," Bismarck Rural Fire Chief Al Klein said.

Klein says thanks to the snowstorm we had a few weeks ago, fire crews haven't responded to as many grass fires as anticipated this spring.
