Ward County is selling five of the 42 homes slated for removal from the Mouse River valley to make way for proposed flood protection in the coming years.
Today at the Ward County Commission meeting it was announced that private individuals had won bids to purchase five homes.
They will have to be moved from the property by July 15.
The other 37 will now move forward with the demolition process.
Some will have to have asbestos abatement first -- but the hope is to remove the homes this summer.
Commission Jerome Gruenberg strongly pushed for the project to move quickly...especially for two homes slated for teardown in Burlington.
They currently stand in the way of an emergency levee that will be built now to protect the town from the Des Lacs River.
