The Second Annual Burleigh County Cup gravel bike race got off to a big start this morning at Eagle Park. With over 80 racers, participants are nearly double over last year's event. Competitors come from as far as Fargo and even Minneapolis to race. With this much interest only two years in, organizers were asked if they envision taking the Burleigh County Cup big.
"Well, we hope so. We don't want it to get too out-of-hand, you know. We want to be able to manage it, but yes, we want it to grow bigger and bigger," says Tyler Huber, Burleigh County Cup Co-Organizer. Ian Easton is Co-Organizer with Huber.
This year's winners in the 75-mile race are Chris Knoll of Minot with a time of 4:22:41 for the men; and Bianca Bergman of Fargo with a time of 5:29:13 for the women.
The 35-mile race winners are Chris Heid of Bismarck, in at 2:14:17 for the men; and Katie Teabner, Fargo, for the women with a time of 2:18:54.
If you're a racer, but missed this year's event, race organizers encourage you to jump in next year. Organizers say they plan to keep it free-of-charge. You can find the Burleigh County Cup on Facebook.
