Attorney General Speaks About Lawsuit Challenging Abortion Law

Posted:

An abortion rights group says it has filed its first lawsuit challenging one of the state's anti-abortion laws.

New York-based Center for Reproductive Rights filed the lawsuit in state court on behalf of North Dakota's lone abortion clinic.

The lawsuit challenges a law that requires doctors who perform abortions to obtain hospital-admitting privileges.

North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says the state has not been formally served" but they did receive an email earlier this afternoon notifying them of the lawsuit.

"I have not had a chance to digest them, I will tell you that we will of course be defending the enactment passed by the legislature and we will respond to the motion." North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem said.

Abortion rights activists say more lawsuits are coming.
