Remembering North Dakota's Fallen Officers

Posted: Updated:

61 North Dakota law enforcement officers have made the ultimate sacrifice while on the job.

This afternoon those brave officers are remembered at a Peace Officer Memorial Service at the state Capitol.

Governor Jack Dalrymple has declared today, May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day, in accordance with a proclamation signed by President Barack Obama.

Dalrymple says North Dakota officers risk their lives everyday when they go to work.

"Some giving their lives so that others can be saved, at any time of the day all across North Dakota, hundreds of brave men and women put on the uniform and badge and head off to work not knowing what they will encounter," Governor Jack Dalrymple said.

Flags are being flown at half staff today in honor of the fallen officers.
