Gas Prices Expected to Hit Record Highs

Bismarck, ND -

A big jump today for gas prices in our area.

Drivers filling up Thursday morning saw $4.19 for a gallon of gasoline.

Since Tuesday prices in Bismarck have climbed .24 cents, the Fargo area has seen a .30 increase.

Our area is not alone in this one.

Three refineries that feed our region are down for maintenance.

Gene LaDoucer with AAA in North Dakota says there is an "ever-growing" list of refineries shut down are in Illinois, Oklahoma, Kansas, Indiana, Wyoming and Minnesota.

Ladoucer says the spike should be temporary.

But he says the outages will lead to record high gas prices.

He says Bismarck could see record prices Friday.

According to President of the North Dakota Petroleum Retailers Association, Mike Rud, some gas stations in Jamestown and Fargo are out of fuel.

The question many drivers and those watching the industry are asking is why would major refineries choose to do their maintenance at the same time and right before the Memorial Day holiday.
