Meeting Set on Radioactive Waste

Posted: Updated:

Radioactive material is being dumped illegally in North Dakota.

That's what the head of the Dakota Resource Council says.

Don Morrison says the naturally-occurring radioactive materials from oil wells are making their way to local landfills and illegal dump sites.

The DRC is part of a new group called the Energy Industry Waste Coalition that was formed to alert people to the radioactive waste situation and influence policy decisions about how to handle the oil exploration waste.

A meeting is planned in Minot on Sunday to discuss plans for the E-I-W-C and you are invited to attend.

It's at Minot's Carnegie Center, downtown, at 2:30 Sunday afternoon.

The group has met two other times to organize and plans to soon meet with the North Dakota Health Department regarding proposed changes to radioactive waste guidelines in the state.
