Smoke Free Playgrounds In Bismarck

Smokers will need to stay at least 20 feet from playgrounds in Bismarck, after the Bismarck Park board approves a request for smoke free playgrounds.

Tonight commissioners vote unanimously to approve the request.

The Go! Bismarck Mandan coalition, says second hand smoke isn't only harmful to children's bodies, but can also impact the decisions they make as they grow older.

"Parks and recreation areas are designated areas to promote healthy activities, young children are impressible, people in recreation are role models for youth and can have a positive effect on the lifestyle choices they make, second hand smoke even in outdoor settings is a true health hazard and harms everyone," LaRae Stark said.

Just the 44 Bismarck Parks and Rec Playgrounds are impacted by the agreement.
