A tragic accident occurred tonight on the 2 & 52 bypass west of Minot near Behm's Truck Stop claiming at least one life.
Authorities say a semi traveling westbound on the bypass plowed into the back of a car that was stopped at the light at the intersection of the 2& 52 and Highway 83 bypass.
The car was then smashed between the semi and the back end of another semi trailer that is described as a belly dump gravel truck.
The collision set off a chain reaction pushing the stopped vehicles into the intersection of moving traffic.
At least six injuries are being reported at this time.
The highway patrol reports three semis, and five passenger vehicles were involved in the accident.
Sergeant Kevin Huston says their office is investigating what lead up to the semi crashing into the back end of the car that was stopped at the red light.
(Sergeant Kevin Huston, ND Highway Patrol) "The vehicle that, the fatality victim was involved was stopped also at the red light and it was in between two semis."
Nathaniel Quinnett lives near the intersection to the south.
He says he was he was outside on his back deck that faces the traffic when the crash occurred and saw the accident unfolding.
(Nathaniel Quinnett, Lives Near Bypass Intersection) "I hear a loud bang and I happen to look back and I saw this bigger gray semi read-ending the yellow dump truck and they got pushed out into the road and hit the other little car that was going across the intersection because they had the light."
Quinnett says he didn't hear any break noise before the crash occurred.
The Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate this accident.
Names of the injured and the deceased will be released once relatives are notified.
