Around Town -- May 17, 2013

Posted: Updated:

A full-blown construction boom is underway in Dickinson -- in this week's "Around Town."

All the way from Newport News, Virginia, comes Ferguson -- a wholesale plumbing and HVAC supplier catering to construction contractors.  Serving residential and commercial needs, they say the construction boom attracted them to North Dakota -- and to Dickinson, in particular.  Their new Dickinson store adds to their existing 1,300 locations nationwide.  Ferguson is located at 1917 I-94 Business Loop East.

HomStay Suites extended stay is going up at exit 59 and the I-94 ramp in Dickinson.  Representatives say the 83-room hotel is an upscale property that will feature a lounge where every evening they'll make pizzas.  Guests will also enjoy a complimentary hot breakfast, convenience store, pool and whirlpool, party room and meeting space.  Catering to the oil field, they'll also offer complimentary washers and dryers, locker rooms and boot dryers.

With housing in such short supply, the lower level will be devoted to accommodations for their employees.  HomStay Suites will be hiring 20 to 25 people.  They're on schedule to open this September.

Right next door is the nearly-completed Value Place hotel.  They're a weekly residential franchise with longer-term specials also available.  They feature big kitchens and apartment-style amenities, as well as onsite nighttime security personnel.

Based out of Wichita, the company says Value Place is the largest economy extended stay franchise in America.  The company says additional Value Place hotels are coming to North Dakota.  They're set to open June 14th.
Construction is progressing on Dickinson's new hospital.  St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Office Building at 23rd Avenue and Fairway is on schedule to open this Fall.  The hospital will include three operating rooms, four delivery rooms, full emergency department, a helipad, and in-house diagnostic capabilities.

According to the City of Dickinson, 57 new building permits have been issued this month alone, valued at over 36 million dollars.
