Rice Bowl Named Top 100 Chinese Restaurant In Country

If you're hungry for Chinese Food, there's only a handful of places to choose from in Bismarck/Mandan.

But one downtown restaurant in Mandan seems to be attracting a lot of regular customers, and those customers are the reason they are one of the best Chinese Restaurants in the country.

"Hello Rice Bowl," Sammi Wu said.

Above the Mandan Public Library, sits a family owned restaurant, a restaurant some consider a hidden gem.

"It's neat because it is kind of hidden by the library, and it's just a really cool find," Ashlyn Quintus said.

The Rice Bowl opened its doors nearly 15 years ago with one goal in mind.

"We just wanted to make it like a family to everybody, we are part of the family of friends to them, so when they come to us it's like they are coming home or going to a friends house," Sammi Wu said.

90 percent of the food is made fresh in the kitchen, which is why customers continue to come back for a home cooked meal.

"I like their egg rolls," Mark Burman said.

"Their wontons are really good," Quintus said.

"The hot beef, I like the hot beef," Chuck Burman said.

"It's an L-14, it's shrimp and lobster sauce, great stuff," John Nixon said.

These family customers are the reason the Rice Bowl is named a top 100 Chinese Restaurant in the country.

Last year someone recommended the Rice Bowl as a top 100 restaurant.

"We didn't know it, it's kind of like a surprise until they call us," Wu said.

The regulars here say It's no surprise they won, especially since the award doesn't only judge the restaurants food, but also the service and atmosphere.

"I've eaten here 100 times or more and I have never had a bad meal," Bill Snider said.

"It's the people, the people who run the place," Nixon said.

"It's like I did something and then people admitted that I did it right," Wu said.

And they have the hardware to prove it.

The chefs in the kitchen are only family members like Wu's dad, brother and husband.

She says they don't hire any other chefs because they want customers to experience the same taste each time they visit.
