Busy Construction Season

Posted: Updated:

Get ready to dodge orange cones and detour signs throughout the city of Minot this spring and summer...

It is set to be the busiest season ever for construction around town...and it has already started.

Perry Olson has a look at the work going on, and why it is so vital to a quickly growing community.

It won't be a summer of rest and relaxation in the Magic City...

(Jason Sorenson - City of Minot Public Works) "It is going to be pretty wild..."

It will be a summer of construction -- lots of it -- all across town. This map indicates the projects on the slate for the coming months. It's colorful to say the least...pink highlights indicate road projects...

(Jason Sorenson - City of Minot Public Works) "I can promise you detours all summer long. We just have so much work going on from roads to water to sewer, lift stations...there are just projects all over."

The big price tag will come in sewer infrastructure work. About 50 million dollars worth of work to replace old lines with newer, larger ones -- like here at 3rd Street south from the Airport -- to new lines that are needed to allow for the rapid growth on the cities outskirts...

(Jason Sorenson - City of Minot Public Works) "Some of the projects that we have going on now are big and once we get some of those in the ground we should be done on some of those things for quite awhile. It is trunk infrastructure so from there it will be developers tying into it."

It will increase the ability for the city to grow...and at the same time improve upon a system that has aged greatly. But it won't happen without plenty of work over the next few months -- so be prepared for some route changes...remembering it will all be done hopefully...by the time this returns! In Minot, Perry Olson, KX News.

A big project on the slate this year street wise is to Burdick Expressway.

Different segments of the main east-west route through town will see lots of work this summer reducing traffic flow there.
