Pink Golfers Turn Out For A Good Cause

Posted: Updated:

It's a serious cause.  The approach is anything but.

Organizers refer to it as "the wackiest golf tournament in town."  Everybody wears pink and golfs -- sort of.  The Volkowitsch Golf Open kicks off with 800 pink golf balls falling from a helicopter -- and it gets crazier from there with animal decoys and pool cue putters.  There was even a free car at stake -- but no one managed the hole-in-one to claim it.

"Everybody wearing pink just having a fun time golfing.  It's just a blast.  If you want to participate next year, go to the Facebook page, send us a message and we'll get you down," says Ryan Volk, Co-Organizer, Volkowitsch Golf Open.

The annual event celebrates the memory of Missy Balkowitsch of Bismarck who passed away a few weeks ago after battling cancer for many years.  More than $20,000 raised from today's event will be donated to the Bismarck Cancer Center Foundation and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
