Avenue of Flags

It's a new way to honor the fallen and those who serve and have served.

One-hundred eighteen American flags line State Street in Bismarck leading up to the capitol mall.

The Bismarck Optimist Club put the flags up at dawn this morning for the first time.

It's called the "Avenue of Flags."

Organizers say they wanted to lead drivers through part of the capital city--flanked by flags.

"I hope they're proud of it, I hope it helps them remember what Memorial Day is all about, that's what we're hoping, and that we're so fortunate to be here and in the city, and it just worked out so wonderfully, we're super excited about it, and hope everyone really loves it."says Kristi Kraft of the Bismarck Optimist Club.

The flags will be displayed for five patriotic holidays including Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Veteran's Day.

The flags will be taken down at dusk tonight.

If you'd like to help sponsor the program, you can go to bismarckoptimist.com or contact Kristi at 202-9003.
