Regional Jet Service Takes Off at Dickinson Airport

Posted: Updated:

Regional jet service takes off for the first time from one airport in oil country.

The airport in Dickinson now has direct jet service to Denver, with flights to Minneapolis set to take off on Monday.

Its terminal may be small, but its new air service is big.

"Atmosphere like an excitement in the air, the regional jets are coming here, they're taking passengers, the planes are full, fun excitement, just working all the minor kinks out." says Matthew Remynse, airport manager.

This is one of the first United jet flights arriving in Dickinson from Denver.

The airport manager says it's a sight that will never get old.

"It's been a long road coming, it's been a lot of hard work to get to where we are today, I'm just glad I could be the one, who led the community to regional jets, it's almost like a feather in my cap, I'm just really proud of it." says Remynse.

"The regional jet service brings a lot of opportunity to the Dickinson area, and some of the passengers bring a lot of entertainment." Amber Schatz

"It was real friendly, everyone was greeting us in the gate, we do a lot of traveling in entertainment, all around the country, as soon as got in we saw two smiling faces, welcoming us to Dickinson, we're really excited to be here, it's nice when you land to get a nice smile, nice face." says Al Fuentes, creative director of the High Voltage Extreme Team.

It's the High Voltage Extreme Team's first time to North Dakota from Florida.

They're here to perform at the Medora Musical.

They didn't know their flight was one of the first of its kind in Dickinson, but their overall experience here has been smooth sailing.

"It was really nice, user friendly, come in really quick, luggage was right here, fast, easy that's the way to travel for us." says Fuentes.

Whether it's their first time to the area, or they're returning home for a visit, passengers like this Williston native are also excited about more options.

"The efficiency and the ability to get in and out of here is really nice, I'm looking forward to using the airport a lot more." says Deanna Schnaidt, traveling from Denver.

50 of 50 seats were filled on the very first United flight, showing that jet service for this community is really taking off.

"They're ecstatic about it, it's what they wanted to see for many years and it's finally here, I don't think I've talked to anybody in the community who said, oh I didn't want a regional jet, everybody here wanted to see it and it's here now." says Remynse.

Great Lakes also offers two round-trips to Denver.

Delta's regional jet service to Minneapolis starts on Monday, June 10th.

Future updates at the airport include a new terminal and runway in the next five years.

In case you are wondering, the High Voltage Extreme Dance Team will be performing at the Medora Musical starting Friday night through July 22nd.
