Body Recovered Near Desert Boat Ramp

Posted: Updated:

Dive and rescue teams recover the body of a man who drowned while swimming yesterday south of Bismarck.

Crews searched the river into the evening but did not locate the body until around 11 this morning.

Because of the strong current they didn't recover the body until about 1 p.m. this afternoon.

A dive team from Jamestown was called in with a robotic operating vehicle, which helped in the recovery effort.

"By using the ROV we were able to get a more accurate location of the victim and upon getting that location we were able to dispatch a diver to that area to retrieve the body," Justin Harmon said.

The Burleigh County Sheriff's Department has not released the victims name.

They do say the victim is a white male, approximately 50 years of age and is from out of state.
