AARC Honors Lifesaver

Posted: Updated:

It's been nearly two years since Bismarck Police Sergeant Steven Kenner was killed while responding to a domestic assault.

Since that day in July of 2011, Kenner's legacy has lived on, inspiring fellow officers to go above and beyond the call of duty.

The Abused Adult Resource Center's Sergeant Steven Kenner Lifesaver Award goes to a law enforcement officer who has worked with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in the past year.

Detective April Jose of the Mandan Police Department is this years recipient.

"Her commitment to justice has resulted in arrests and convictions demonstrating to victims that the crimes perpetrated against them will not be overlooked or ignored," says ND Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem.

Victims say Detective Jose's ability to approach them in a calm manner has helped them feel their needs are being heard and met.
