Get ready for a new commercial hotspot in the city of Minot -- or maybe an expanded one. Southgate Crossing will be home to Cashwise Foods, PetCo...and Gordmans that has announced it will be opening on July 25. That will put much more pressure on this part of town just to the southwest of Dakota Square Mall. City of Minot officials are putting the plans in place now to handle the increased traffic that will flock to the area soon. Lance Meyer says studies indicated much more traffic will be coming...and so too will control measures.

(Lance Meyer - Minot City Engineer) "At the intersection of 31st Ave and 16th St sometime late this summer we will see a new traffic signal installed there and then 31st Ave will actually travel to the west about 1000 feet to the end of the new development. That will be the main access in and out of that shopping area."

The main access...but to the south more entrances will be made available...just not with the lights like 31st.

(Lance Meyer - Minot City Engineer) "Plenty of ways in and out of that area and traffic will pick up so that is why we are having that signal installed there on 31st."

On North Hill, lights are going in as well at the intersection of 16th Street NW and 21st Avenue where MarketPlace Foods new location will soon open.

Not far from Southgate Crossing, Starbucks is getting closer to opening its new location. The inside of the building is protected from the elements now so weather won't be a problem. Inside, it is basically just a shell still. The hope is to be open this September for the second location right next to Bitz PC and Kohls...
