Around Town -- June 14, 2003

Posted: Updated:

High-tech vision solutions, authentic food and jobs -- lots of jobs.  All in this week's "Around Town."

Mandan gets a new store dedicated to the visually-impaired.  Low Vision Products and Training of North Dakota is providing high and low-tech solutions for those who cannot get enough improvement with ordinary eyeglasses, contact lenses or surgery.  "Just with a touch of a button, I can magnify that," demonstrates Co-Owner Kevin Vannett, Low Vision Products and Training of North Dakota.

Owners emphasize vision aids do not restore lost vision, but can help a person maintain independence and enjoy reading the newspaper, watching TV, or writing once again.  These aids are not just for people with low vision -- they assist with everyday fine print.  To learn more, stop by 320 West Main Street in Mandan.

A new restaurant opens in Bismarck -- and is welcomed with open arms.  La Carreta is serving up authentic Mexican food, and they're trying hard to keep up with demand.  Owners say the new Bismarck location serves up more food and drink in one day than all week in their Jamestown restaurant.

They offer a vast menu of Mexican food -- and even a "rodeo burger" for those more inclined to cheeseburgers.  There's a full bar, where owners say their Margaritas are flying off the shelves.

For right now, they're open seven days for lunch and dinner but closed between 2 and 5.
They're hiring all positions, but especially cooks experienced in preparing authentic Mexican dishes.

Walmart in Mandan is hiring.  They need 300 full and part-time associates to work at the new Supercenter slated to open this Fall.  The majority of new associates will begin work this month to help prepare the store for grand opening.

A temporary hiring center is open at 2640 Sunset Drive (701/663-5243).  You can also apply online at http://careers.walmart.com.
