It is never to soon to instill a love of physical activity in our kids. In this week's Eye on Health, Carla Burbidge takes us to a new program for children at Ask Fitness in Minot.
When the class begins, the children get to know one another, and then they get to be involved in physical activity together.
This month, Ask Fitness in North Minot launched what they call ABC Athletics. There are a variety of classes, for kids as young as 6 months of age, up to the age of 8.
(Macey Boseck, Instructor) "its good to teach them fitness early, not sit at home.
We want them to enjoy being active"
For the kids under the age of two, a parent stays with them. It's amazing how many fitness activities there are for children. Even if the kids need a little assistance, they gain strength, balance, coordination, agility and flexibility, all while developing social skills and having fun.
(Macey Boseck, Instructor) "hopping, rolling, we want to build their strength, give them good balance"
Macy says ABC Athletics is not just a summer activity, Ask plans to offer these classes year around. Parents do not have to be gym members, the fee is 5-dollars per class, or 35 dollars per month. Statistics tell us that we have a whole generation of kids in danger due to minimal physical activity, and unhealthy eating habits. Getting you kids involved in ABC athletics, or any type of fitness, is an important step.
