The North Dakota Mounted Shooting Association hosted its first annual "Battle on Betty's Butte" after Betty Dietrich, the owner of the Flying D Arena northeast of Bismarck.
Contestants compete in this fast action timed event using two .45 caliber single action revolvers--each loaded with five rounds of specially prepared blank ammunition.
Riders target different colored balloons to see who can shoot the most in the least amount of time.
Mounted shooting is the fastest growing equestrian sport in the nation, and aims to give cowboys, cowgirls, and little wranglers a chance to see the best shots in the west.
