Mosquito Count Normal For This Time of Year

All the rain we've received isn't attracting more mosquitoes yet this year.

80 traps like these are setup across the state to collect and test mosquitoes.

In the last two weeks the traps have collected close to 2200 mosquitoes, which is comparable to the number collected last year.

Alicia Lepp with the North Dakota Department of Health, says those numbers might be on the rise in the coming weeks.

Mosquitoes do need water for breeding it's where they lay their eggs, so the more standing water there is around the more likely you will have more mosquitoes so with all the rainfall we've been having this year, there could be, you could be seeing more mosquitoes than recently," Alicia Lepp said.

The city of Bismarck does spray for mosquitoes from 6 to 9 a.m. each weekday at many parks, golf courses and walking trails in the city.

The City of Mandan does not spray for mosquitoes.
