County Building Plans Finalized

Posted: Updated:

The Ward County building is one step closer to breaking ground after today.

Two major topics of concern at the Ward County Commissioners meeting were the building plan and parking.

Three options have been laid out for acquiring the Minot Daily News parking lot.

All three plans involve swapping properties with Minot Daily for the area currently occupied by the Ward County Public Library.

The city is hoping to acquire the news half of the street in order to move the jail over to their property.

There was some confusion in the beginning of the meeting between the architect and some members of the commission regarding the current design plan.

Commission Chairman, Jack Nybakken says the plan is to have the bids closed by early to mid August and be able to break ground by late-August.

He says the plans have taken a little longer than expected in order to take the necessary precautions.

(Jack Nybakken, Chairman, Ward County Commissioners) "There have been a number of requests in different departments and so forth. They said that the plans that were presented originally did not meet their needs. So he has been going back and meeting with the departments to make the appropriate changes. So hopefully we are at that point where the plans for the administrative building are pretty much done now."

The next meeting will be July 17th.

The plan is to vote and approve the architectural designs of the new building.

Once the design is approved, there needs to be 21 days of public advertisement before a bid can be accepted.
